Two-days of learning, fostering community and sharing experiences across the Becker muscular dystrophy community.
Becker Education & Engagement Day (BEED) Brings Community Together in Manchester
On 11–12 September 2026, TREAT-NMD welcomed the Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) community to Manchester, UK, for our Becker Education & Engagement Day.
Delivered in partnership with Muscular Dystrophy UK and the BMD Hub, the event brought together individuals living with BMD, family members, carers, patient advocates, healthcare professionals, researchers, and industry representatives.
The two-day programme combined expert presentations and lived experience perspectives, covering topics including genetics, standards of care, research and emerging therapies, cardiac health, physiotherapy, nutrition, mental wellbeing, independent living, and parenting with a disability.
Attendees also took part in interactive Community Conversations, creating space to share experiences, ask questions, and connect with others affected by BMD. A key aim of the event was to provide reliable information and practical advice to support informed decision-making, while strengthening connections across the Becker muscular dystrophy community.
Feedback from attendees highlighted the value of hearing from both clinical experts and people with lived experience, with many participants reporting that they left feeling better informed, more connected, and encouraged by ongoing progress in research and care.
“I really enjoyed meeting other people from the BMD community. As a mother to a young BMD sufferer, it was great to engage with people with similar stories to ours. I feel less alone now. Thank you to all the organisers and speakers; it was a pleasure”.
