From 4–10 October 2026, the global community will come together to mark Becker Awareness Week, helping to raise awareness and understanding of Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD).
Becker muscular dystrophy is a rare genetic neuromuscular condition that causes progressive muscle weakness and can affect people in different ways. Raising awareness is important in helping people living with Becker, their families and carers access information, support and appropriate care.
At TREAT-NMD, Becker muscular dystrophy is an important area of our work. We are committed to helping Inform, Connect and Advance progress across the neuromuscular community.
Earlier this year, we brought together people living with Becker, families, carers and healthcare professionals at our Becker Education & Engagement Day in Manchester. The two-day event created an opportunity for the community to learn from experts, ask questions, share experiences and connect with others who understand the realities of living with Becker.
Bringing people together is an important part of advancing care and research. By listening to the experiences of the Becker community, sharing knowledge and connecting people across the field, we can help support continued progress towards better care and treatments.
This Becker Awareness Week, we are proud to stand alongside the Becker community and everyone working to improve understanding, care and treatment for people living with Becker muscular dystrophy.
